The Cited by: Grouted connections have been extensively used in the oil and gas industry for decades, and more recently their application has been extended to the offshore wind industry. Unfortunately plain-pipe grouted connections for large-diameter monopile foundations have recently exhibited clear signs of insufficient axial capacity, resulting in slippage between the transition piece and monopile. Eighteen grouted pile-to-sleeve connections were tested to examine the influence of combined loading, relative shear-key location between pile and sleeve, pile-sleeve eccentricity, and grout strength. The results indicated that combined loading had no detrimental effect on ultimate capacity of a grouted connection.

The typical grouted connection of the pile to sleeve connection of an offshore jacket platform is schematically shown in Fig. The piles are driven through the sleeves.

The Strength of grouted pile-sleeve connections (Offshore Author: Wimpey Offshore Engineers, Constructors Ltd., Wimpey Offshore Engineers & Constructors Ltd. The ultimate strength equation states that the axial strength of the connection is equal to the sum of two terms: First, the strength of the adhesion and friction between the pile and grout, and, second, the product of the confined strength of the grout and the ratio of the shear key's height to its spacing.

Volume15 NovemberPages Interfacial shear behavior of a high-strength pile to sleeve grouted connection. Eighteen grouted pile-sleeve connections were tested to examine the influence of combined loading (moment and axial load), relative shear key location between sleeve and pile, eccentric piles and sleeves, and grout strength.

The specimens were divided into six series, each containing three by: 9. Tests on the strength of plain pile to sleeve grouted connections with no shear keys demonstrate high scatter and uncertainty because of the The strength of grouted pile-sleeve connections for offshore structures book confinement due to flexibility of the large pile and sleeve diameters and difficulty of fully displacing the water in the annulus with surface pumped grout.

The low The strength of grouted pile-sleeve connections for offshore structures book and higher safety factor requirements for plain grouted connections generally result in longer pile sleeves.

Eighteen grouted pile‐to‐sleeve connections were tested to examine the influence of combined loading, relative shear‐key location between pile and sleeve, pile‐sleeve eccentricity, and grout strength. The results indicated that combined loading had no detrimental effect on ultimate capacity of a grouted connection.

The treatment of early age cyclic loading (EAC) on pile-sleeve grouted connections is one of the challenging problems encountered in the design of offshore jacket structures. Existing experimental results are studied to determine the factors (including those not previously identified) affecting the strength of grouted connections.

The current bond strength formula is evaluated and its limitations noted. Previous analytical work is examined and strengths and weaknesses investigated. A nonlinear finite element analysis is developed using a friction gap element to Author: C.A.

Grouted connections have been extensively used in the oil and gas industry for decades, and more recently their application has been extended to the offshore wind industry. All components of the support structure of an offshore plant must be able to withstand these loadings for at least 25 years.

Particular attention must be paid to the interface between the piles and the support structure, which is usually realized with pile-sleeve connections as tube-in-tube connections, generally referred to as grouted connections.

The connections between steel offshore platforms and their piles are generally made by filling the annulus between each pile and its sleeve with cement grout. Existing design rules for these grouted connections were derived from tests on relatively small diameter radially stiff by:   Jacket pile-sleeve connections / Inspection and Repair of grouted connections.

Older offshore jackets / offshore windmills / piled-grouted structures are not designed according to the requirements of the current design code.

The old codes have for some cases proved not to give sufficient safety factor and capacity of the grouted pile / jacket. ABSTRACT This paper provides new guidance on the use of unstressed grouted sleeves in strengthening/ modification/repair (SMR) applications.

Presently there is no guidance for the slip capacity of grouted split sleeves having longitudinal bolted flanges, and the available guidance for continuous sleeves (as used in pile-sleeve connections) requires modification to make it applicable for split.

A grouted connection (GC) is a composite connection of two steel tubes with different diameter. A smaller steel tube (pile) is plugged into a steel tube with larger diameter (sleeve). The annulus between these steel tubes is filled with an offshore specific grout.

THE STRENGTH OF GROUTED PILE-SLEEVE CONNECTIONS. The majority of fixed steel offshore platforms are founded on tubular steel piles which are either driven or drilled into the foundations through steel sleeves welded to the main structure.

Offshore, they are applied to strengthen new or aging platform structures such as jacket members, pile sleeves, conductors, and joints. Once mixed with water, the materials are pumped through flexible hoses into pile sleeve connections, annuli, or tubular members.
